When it comes to Rogue Traders here is some advice you should follow:

Golden rule is never buy from your doorstep, make appointments with trusted companies that will give you a genuine quote in writing along with a cooling off period.

Watch out for unmarked/non branded vehicles.

Make sure you put your door chain on when answering the door.

Make sure your back door or other entrances to your property are locked.

Once you have declined their offer of their services make sure you shut and secure your door, report these Rogue Traders on 101 or if they behaviour causes you extra concern call 999.

Keep your gardens and property in a good condition, Rogue Traders will look for properties that have vulnerabilities. If you are unable to do this yourself there are trusted organisations that can help and assist you here are some examples.
